Currency and exchange

The national currency is the Cuban Peso, but the import and export of this currency is not permitted.

As a tourist, you can pay with the Peso Convertible and in some areas also with Euros. These regions are Varadero, Jardines del Rey, Santa Lucia, Playa Covarrubias and the coastal regions around Holguín.

The Peso Convertible (CUC) can be obtained without problems at exchange bureaus, banks and hotels.

The exchange rate corresponds to the international exchange rate of the US Dollar at a ratio of 1:1.

The import and possession of US Dollars continues to be permitted. When exchanging US Dollars into Peso Convertibles there is however an exchange charge of 10%.

Important: credit cards or travellers cheques of American banks are not accepted.
