Water sport

The conditions for a sports holiday in Cuba are excellent. In particular it is ideal for water sport of all types, not only for beginners but also for the more experienced. You will find ideal conditions also for diving and snorkelling in the waters around Cuba: more than 5,000km of coastline with innumerable coral reefs in often crystal-clear, comfortably warm water.

Many diving centres have been set up or extended in recent years, some under German management. The favourite diving grounds are near the dreamy Caribbean islands of Cayo Largo and Isla de la Juventud as well as Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo and at the Playa Santa Lucia. You will also find well-developed centres in Varadero, the most important tourism and watersport centre, in Guardalavaca on the north coast of Cuba and on the south coast in María la Gorda, at the Playa Giron, at the Rancho Luna beach near Cienfuegos, at the Playa Ancon near Trinidad and on the beaches of Santiago de Cuba.

There are watersport bases on the beaches of all larger tourist centres that hire out diving equipment, surf boards, jet skis, canoes, catamarans and sailing boats. You can also obtain diving, surf or sailing tuition there.
